GO PICK UP YOUR BOOK

There’s something about September in Birmingham. The air changes, jumpers come out, and suddenly everyone remembers how to read again. The summer slump’s over, the iced coffees are swapped for hot ones, and our Kindles start whispering,

“Go on then, one more chapter.”

For our September pick, the girls at The Plot Privé jumped into Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent the fantasy that had us all questioning if we’d actually survive in a magical realm

(Answer: probably not).

The Venue

This was our first time hosting book club at this venue, and while it looked the part (and the drinks were spot on), it did get a little loud for the games and book talk. We’re just keeping it real, a beautiful spot, but maybe better suited to gossip than heated games of book charades. However we made the most of it table booked, books, mocktails (It's a Thursday night people) and chatter that sounded a lot like "I skimmed the last few pages"

And since Daughter of no worlds gave us such strong characters, it only felt right to find out who we’d each member would be in their world.

Cue the character quiz.

Once the quizzes were done, we swapped personalities for pastries. There’s something about autumn that makes you want to bake, even if you have no idea what you’re doing. So, inspired by the book’s magic and the change in season, we spent the evening decorating sugar cookies, baked by our birthday girl (and part-time Mary Berry).

Some looked like works of art. Others… let’s just say the effort was there. But honestly, what’s a fantasy book night without a bit of mess.

Of course, no Plot Privé evening is complete without a little friendly competition. Enter Your Honour our newest game and possibly our most dramatic yet.

Two teams. One mission: defend your chosen trope.

  • Sunshine vs. Grump

  • Friends to lover vs Enemies To Lovers

  • Lover Over Kingdom Vs Kingdom Over Lover

Lover Vs Kingdom : where do your loyalties lie?

  • Lover

  • Kingdom

It got heated (in the best way). No one held back. Someone might have quoted A Court of Thorns and Roses mid-argument. Who needs a law degree when you’ve got strong opinions and a 200-book TBR anyway?

A Birthday & a Bit of Magic ✨

ree

This month’s meet-up was extra special, because we had a birthday to celebrate. And if there’s one thing Plot Privé does well, it’s celebrations.

  • Gift

  • Cake

  • Flowers... Obviously

  • Card....Signed with love and a bit of icing smudge.

Until Next Time…

As autumn settles in and the nights get darker, there’s something comforting about getting lost in a good story and even better when you’re surrounded by people who love it just as much.

Here’s to more pages, more laughter, and more slightly chaotic book nights in Birmingham.
